The onsite team has put residents safety at the forefront of activities and dining, continuously evaluating and adjusting to the needs of the community. They implanted a phased opening process that allowed our teams to make real-time decisions for the resident’s safety and wellbeing. I have lived at the Village at Southlake for two and a half years and it is my home. When I came here due to pulmonary hypertension, I could do very little physically. I had to have oxygen most of the time. Now, I do not need the oxygen for everyday activities and enjoy almost every aspect of living here. By using my walker, I can go anywhere on the property and enjoy the walk around the pond as well as the activities in the clubhouse.
I love to piece quilts but due to a broken wrist, just as lockdown began, I could now sew. There is always something to keep busy with, so I started making greeting cards, At first, it was just birthday cards, but I realized the residents could not go out to purchase them, so I made them sell for the cost of the paper. I felt as if it was a service for the residents. Over time I have made 250-300 cards that brought more pleasure to me than the residents!
Covid has been hard, but we had shelter, food, comfortable surroundings, and many friends! We have so much to be thankful for! Thank you, Village at Southlake, for making my life better in every way.
